Teaching Credential/MA Program - School of Education

BCLAD

The elementary and secondary BCLAD emphasis authorizes elementary and secondary teachers to provide to English learners: 1) Content instruction delivered in the students primary language; 2) academic instruction delivered in English designed specifically for English learners; and 3) instruction for English language development. Teachers who earn the BCLAD authorization in addition to the elementary or secondary credential are in great demand in the public schools.

The UC Davis BCLAD emphasis is offered for speakers of Spanish. A Spanish oral and written examination is administered during the application process. You must meet a certain level of Spanish proficiency to participate in this segment of the elementary or secondary credential program. During the credential year, students in the BCLAD emphasis will have at least some portion of the student teaching experience in a classroom working with English learners. In addition, students will participate in an additional class each quarter for this emphasis.
